Design Process

A person in a blue work jacket is using orange and yellow clamps to hold a vertical wood panel in place against a curved metal frame in a workshop setting.

Good design takes time, patience and often, a heap of prototypes (and people) to get it right.

Black serif text on a white background reading: 'Collaborative design is the essence of who we are. We utilize each other's strengths.'

An open sketchbook with blue line drawings of chairs on graph paper, placed on a wooden work surface surrounded by design sketches and a cutting mat. A hand holding a blue pencil is visible at the bottom right.

Ideas continue to morph into unexpected designs that are better than any one person could create.

A modern lounge chair constructed from layered, curved cardboard panels in a natural tan color, mounted on a white and light wood four-star base, photographed against a clean white background.

A man in a dark work uniform leans over a metal frame, applying a clear adhesive patch with a white and blue applicator to a beige fabric surface on the frame. The setting appears to be a workshop or studio with tools and equipment in the background.

Before you see anything from us, we’ve already seen it a hundred times. We’ve sketched it, discussed it (endlessly) and built prototypes to test its scale, proportion, feel—every inch of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum weight the tabletop can safely support?

The table is designed for typical coffee table use and can comfortably support everyday items like drinks, books, trays, and small décor. While an exact weight rating isn’t specified, distributing weight evenly (rather than concentrating it in one spot) helps maintain stability and longevity. Avoid standing or placing very heavy objects like large stone planters on the surface.

Is the surface level enough for board games or writing?

Yes, the tabletop is flat, making it suitable for board games, puzzles, laptops, or light writing tasks. As with most coffee tables, it’s not designed as a dedicated desk, but it performs well for casual use.

How warm does the metal surface get in direct sunlight?

Because the tabletop is metal, it can become noticeably warm in direct sunlight—especially darker finishes. On hot, sunny days, it may feel too warm for prolonged contact, though it typically won’t reach unsafe temperatures. Using coasters, placemats, or placing the table in partial shade can help keep the surface more comfortable.

How stable is the table on uneven pavers or outdoor rugs?

The table has a solid, well-balanced base featuring leveling feet, but stability depends on the surface beneath it. On slightly uneven pavers or thick outdoor rugs, minor wobble may occur. For best performance, adjust leveling feet to eliminate wobble before using the table.

How resistant is the finish to scratches or daily wear?

The powder-coated metal finish is fairly durable and holds up well to everyday use, including cups, books, and light movement of objects. However, like most coated surfaces, it can show scratches if dragged against rough or sharp items. Using coasters or felt pads under heavier décor will help preserve the finish over time.

Can it stay outdoors year-round in freezing climates if covered?

The table is suitable for outdoor use, but in freezing climates, year-round exposure—even when covered—can accelerate wear over time. For best longevity, it’s recommended to store it indoors or in a sheltered area during harsh winters. A high-quality, breathable cover will help if outdoor storage is necessary.

What seat-height range pairs best with this table?

This table pairs best with low-profile seating such as lounge chairs, outdoor sectionals, or sofas with seat heights around 15–18 inches. The proportions are designed for relaxed, lounge-style use rather than upright dining.

Does the base design allow stools or baskets to fit underneath?

The base is more sculptural than open, so there’s limited clearance for sliding stools or larger baskets underneath. Smaller, low-profile items may fit depending on their height and shape, but the design prioritizes aesthetics and stability over under-table storage.
