Choosing the right materials.

Every material we use in our designs is carefully considered. We use full grain natural aniline leathers because they
outperform and outlast plasticized leather alternatives, wearing-in instead of wearing-out. Durable, repairable, and beautiful,
solid wood is a mainstay in long-lasting furniture. We choose weather-resistant wood for outdoor use and beautiful unstained wood
for indoor use. We use aluminum in 95% of our outdoor metal framed collections because its outdoor longevity is unmatched.
Our fabrics are chosen to suit their environment and tested to prove they will maintain their quality over time. We use a measure
of wear and abrasion resistance called double rubs (one back and forth motion) to ensure our performance fabrics have at least a
100,000 double rub lifespan. Additionally, we only use UV, mold, mildew, and stain resistant fabrics on products intended for
outdoor use.

Even when we share common goals with our partners, we still scrutinize where and how each material is produced. All items in production are detailed and tracked by our engineering team to ensure that the materials are compliant with our mandatory code of conduct. More information can be found here.
Responsibly made designs.
Responsible materials focus on circularity, reduce environmental impact and are ethically created or harvested. We use both recycled and recyclable materials, such as PET plastic, aluminum, steel, and glass. We also opt for natural or water-based finishes and composite materials over highly plastic-based alternatives. When using natural wood — whether solid, veneer, or engineered — we consider the way the trees were grown, harvested, and transported, ensuring sustainable management.
Sustainable wood.
Our goal by 2026 is to make sure 100% of our wood products earn a level of sustainable-forestry claim, using top tier certification organizations such as: FSC®, Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Inc. and Sustainable Forestry Initiative. Recycled plastic.
We only use plastic when it makes sense for the design, and if it does, we use recycled plastic whenever possible. ➔ The entire Decade seating collection is made using 100% pre-consumer recycled polypropylene. ➔ Our Molded PET felt collections use up to 70% post-consumer recycled PET. ➔ Our Kelso upholstery fabric is made with 100% post-consumer recycled polyester. ➔ Select Maharam upholstery fabrics contain between 68-80% post-consumer recycled polyester.

Chicago 8 Box
DOUBLE THE SPACE. HALF THE MATERIAL.
Sometimes, good design is about what's not there. We designed this functional casegood to create shelving in
the open spaces between the boxes, which doubles the usable space using only half the material. Not only that, but the wood panels are sized to
fully utilize a standard board of plywood, so there’s no waste off-cuts. All parts are standardized and interchangeable to reduce labor and
setup costs.
