Souvenir Sofa

Our initial intent with Souvenir was to design a sofa where the warmth of wood played a central role. We envisioned a simple box that showcased plenty of gorgeous wood grain that contained soft upholstered cushions. We chose to feature a large bolster as the back cushion because of the playful interaction between elemental shapes, liking the way the circular form played of the rectilinear frame. In early versions we had a small wooden ledge behind the back cushion. We realized that by extending that ledge we could create a bookcase at the rear of the sofa while also providing a generous table surface behind the sofa for lamps, vases, or other interesting objects. Souvenir is a great example of how continued design exploration can yield unique functional combinations not previously ever considered.
