“Love these chairs...have been wanting them for a few years and finally made the purchase. They are timeless and stylish, lightweight and comfortable. Look great with my Parsons table in the dining room!”

“I have been eyeing these chairs for a couple of years and was able to purchase them on sale. They look great. I especially appreciate not having to deal with packing peanuts. The cardboard packaging was easily recycled and since I subscribe to a plastic recycling service, the bit of bubble wrap was easy to reuse and then recycle.”

Chris

Portland OR

“Purchased this chair for our bedroom to place beside my night stand. Came fully assembled. The white color we got stood out next to our blue walls. The honeycomb pattern detail really stands out and makes this chair very interesting. Great price for the quality”

Jennifer

A modern bar stool with a woven natural rattan seat and backrest, supported by slim red metal legs, shown against a plain light gray background.

Hot Mesh takes its inspiration from the classic café chair designed by Thonet in 1859. We wanted to design a durable and stackable chair that could be used inside and out.

Black text on a white background reading: 'The Thonet chair's use of two bent pieces of wood to form the seat back is a study in economy.'

Three chairs shown in a studio setting: a black wire-frame chair on the left, a white molded chair in the center, and a natural wood folding high chair on the right.

We used a similar strategy and tried to make a sturdy frame from the least amount of material, while also creating a nice silhouette.

A monochrome architectural sketch showing four chair designs arranged on a white sheet, with a faceted geometric white structure running along the top and right edges.

The last step was choosing the right material to finish the seat and back. Off-the-shelf materials like perforated metal and screen-like materials got the job done but were dull.

A bright blue metal mesh chair with a tubular frame, positioned in an industrial workshop setting on top of a stack of metal pipes and papers.

We fixed that by creating our own pattern and custom perforated steel – turning a hot mess into Hot Mesh.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum weight capacity recommended for the lounge chair?

The chair is designed for everyday residential and light commercial outdoor use and comfortably supports typical adult seating. It is engineered for stability and durability under normal lounging conditions. Tested to 275lbs.

How supportive is the reclined angle for long lounging sessions compared to upright seating?

The lounge chair features a relaxed reclined posture that prioritizes comfort over upright formality. It’s well-suited for extended lounging, conversation, or poolside relaxation, while still offering enough support for casual sitting without feeling too laid back.

Does the metal mesh back become warm or uncomfortable in strong sun exposure?

Yes, in direct and prolonged sunlight the metal mesh can warm up, particularly in darker finishes. The open mesh design helps improve airflow, which reduces heat buildup compared to solid metal, but shaded placement is recommended in very hot climates for maximum comfort.

Can outdoor cushions or pads be added securely without slipping on the mesh surface?

Yes, cushions and pads can be used effectively. For best performance, choose cushions with non-slip backing, straps, or ties to help keep them in place on the mesh surface—especially in windy or high-use outdoor settings.

How does the finish hold up when exposed to coastal air, humidity, or poolside environments?

The chair is finished for outdoor durability and performs well in typical exterior conditions. However, coastal air, high humidity, and chlorinated pool environments can accelerate wear over time. Regular rinsing and occasional maintenance will help preserve the finish and extend its lifespan.

Is the chair stable on grassy or uneven outdoor areas?

The chair has a balanced frame, but like most outdoor seating, it performs best on flat, stable surfaces. On grass or uneven ground, slight shifting may occur. Placing the chair on a patio pad, deck, or outdoor rug improves stability.

Does the lounge chair stack without causing scratches or dents in the frame?

Yes, the chair is designed to stack for convenient storage. When stacked carefully, it minimizes surface contact, though repeated stacking may still lead to minor cosmetic wear over time. Handling with care helps preserve the finish.

Are replacement foot caps or protective glides available?

Yes, replacement foot caps and protective glides are typically available through the retailer or manufacturer. These components help maintain floor protection and extend the usable life of the chair.
