SENIOR ENGINEER


TITLE: Senior Furniture Engineer

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Product Development

 

EXPERIENCE: Should have a minimum of 5-10 year experience in furniture product development or related field.

 

SUMMARY: We are searching for an individual who can translate our award-winning furniture designs into production and ensure brand integrity through consistent quality and execution.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create technical specifications to ensure quality for both Blu Dot brand and private label products. (Specifications would include those for raw material standards, construction techniques, hardware, packaging methods, and labeling requirements)
  • Ensure timely resolution of technical issues that arise during the development and manufacturing of new products
  • Provide technical guidance to designers, customers and manufacturing partners
  • Use SolidWorks software to generate accurate, detailed production drawings and specifications based on designers’ models
  • Provide technical support to our domestic and offshore manufacturing partners during quoting, prototyping and manufacturing.
  • Maintain and organize drawing revisions and engineering change orders throughout a product’s lifecycle
  • Assemble, evaluate and inspect factory samples to verify compliance with drawings and specifications
  • Communicate product and sample changes and corrections to supplier through inspection reports, drawing revisions, and factory visits
  • Managing the workload of our staff CAD technician
  • The ideal candidate will transition into a managerial role by building and managing a complete technical team consisting of engineers and CAD technicians

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent Superior understanding of ready-to-assemble furniture construction, detailing, and quality assurance standards
  • Extensive and detailed knowledge of furniture materials and processes, including, but not limited to, wood fabrication, wood finishing, steel fabrication and steel finishing
  • Profound knowledge of the product development process
  • Extensive experience in project planning, project management and driving schedules to on-time completion
  • Solid knowledge of creating production drawings using 3D solid modeling software
  • SolidWorks experience is a must unless you can demonstrate your ability to apply your current software knowledge quickly and effectively
  • Woodshop knowledge and skills, including the operation of power tools and small shop fabrication techniques
  • Ability to thrive with a high volume of work while maintaining quality and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel 4-6 weeks per year

COMPENSATION:
